We were asked to re-concieve the website for UC Berkeley’s Digital Humanities Commons project in preparation for the launch of their first-ever Journal. We helped them clarify their communications with a high-impact, colourful iconic design and branding development. We also built a custom Drupal 7 theme to bring their project and their journal to life.

This is our first project in partnership with the Agile Humanities Agency.

The Open Book Foundation

Sun, 01/05/2014 - 00:00 -- bill
Caption:

The newly incorporated Open Book Foundation has been a client since their inception. Open Book is a not-for-profit web-based organization that brings literary news, events and commentary to Ontarians through their Open Book: Toronto and Open Book: Ontario sites. We helped them conceptualize their web content, including their Writer-in-Residence program, Open Book Magazine, and Ontario Literary Landmark online Scrapbooks, and developed their underlying systems. In 2010 we developed and launched the Open Book app for iOs, which provides event and literary landmark maps driven by their existing web information.

This project demonstrates the power of a fully integrated system, allowing Open Book to capture information in one place and utilize it on their sites and in their mobile application. It also demonstrates the power of good information design, as Open Book is a very active and content rich site.

The Ontario Education Services Corporation (OESC) approached us to create a Trustee Facilitator site, providing vital resources and information for those training the province's school trustees. The site is primarily an intranet, used by Trustee Facilitators to download presentation materials, browse the Facilitator's handbook and provide a forum to share training techniques.

This site is completely responsive, meaning that it's smartly designed for viewing on browsers, tablets and mobile phones.

CGA: Find Your Way

Fri, 10/19/2012 - 18:00 -- mart
Caption:

We worked with the talented people of m marketing to create a promotional website for the Certified General Accounts of Ontario. The goal was to support a real-world marketing campaign which saw CGA representatives travel to high schools across the province to build awareness about accounting as a career. The campaign was enormously successful. Students were given a “PIN” number, which could be entered on the site for a chance to win a number of prizes. We created a custom engine to support thousands of entries, and also developed a “scavenger hunt” contest which guided students through the site towards a final quiz and chance to win.

CGA: Find Your Way demonstrated how an effective site can support an intelligently designed, real-world marketing campaign.

The Apostrophe Engine is a website operated by Intelligent Machines Partner Bill Kennedy and his colleague Darren Wershler. It is the source of the poems in apostrophe, a book published by ECW Press in 2006. The home page of the Apostrophe Engine site presents the full text of a poem called “apostrophe,” written by Bill in 1993. In this digital version of the poem, each line is now a hyperlink which generates an entire new poem with the help of a team of handy robots and the entirety of the internet.

Apostrophe has recently been exhibit the the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, and is coming to Toronto’s Power Plant gallery in 2013.
